[ARCHIVED] - Evidence Vs Faith
#71
RE: Evidence Vs Faith
Yes, and what I'm saying is, how can it not be important, when if he doesn't exist then how can the Bible have been inspired through him? If he doesn't exist then the inspiration is just a placebo. Because the belief in his existence would be false (a delusion). It would mean that Christians believe that the Bible is inspired through God, when really it isn't, and their belief that it is, any good effects that it has, must be a placebo, because there is no such God for the bible to be inspired through.

So how is it not important then?

RE: Evidence Vs Faith
It is not important that we know he exists. After all you already know that we're taking this on faith. I don't know how you've got hung up on this. We believe there's a God there.

RE: Evidence Vs Faith
I didn't say that though did I? I wasn't talking about 'knowing he eixsts'. What I'm saying is, how is the existence question not important, when if he doesn't exist then the bible can't be inspired through him.

If he doesn't exist then the rest is nonsensical. So how is the question not important?

You're asking me to prove a negative. How can I justify what I don't believe?

I believe God is.

RE: Evidence Vs Faith
Proving a negative has got nothing to do what you don't believe. I'm not asking you to prove the non-existence of anything. It's not the negative proof fallacy.

What I'm saying is you contradict yourself because you say his existence doesn't matter, but then you say he makes sense because the bible is inspired through him...

...but the problem is if he doesn't exist then he can't inspire anything!!

So how can you rationally justify his existence not mattering but only the inspiration you get from him, if if he doesn't exist then he can't inspire anything? Because then there is no He to inspire anything!

RE: Evidence Vs Faith
The negative is, I don't believe it. You don't believe in God, so I can't ask you to support that.

The bible is inspired by him using the same logic for God. It was never different.

RE: Evidence Vs Faith
What I am saying is that if his existence doesn't matter, then his logic doesn't, because if he doesn't exist he by definition can't have any logic! His logic, the inspiration that apparently comes from him, everything that comes from him and everything about him - is dependent on his existence. So how can existence not be an issue here? How do you justify that?

What do you mean the negative is you don't believe it? 1. What don't you believe? 2. As I said, not believing has got nothing to do with the negative proof fallacy you accused me of.

The negative proof fallacy is claiming to be able to prove the non-existence of something, which is fallacious.

RE: Evidence Vs Faith
You exactly want me to prove the non-existence of something, do you not?

RE: Evidence Vs Faith
I do not. What are you referring to?

RE: Evidence Vs Faith
God's existence

For 'proof' read 'justify'.

We can both theorise about the relevance of existence to belief but that wouldn't be discussing my beliefs or Christianity.
