I am new
September 3, 2009 at 8:28 pm
Hi.
The site suggested i come to this area first and make myself known.
I'm new to all this. It's not only my first time on the site, but on any forum based site dedicated to this sort of topic.
It's hard for me to find out where to begin.
I guess for now it's just this.
Hi everyone i'm just going to be here in the background for a while and try to understand where everyone's at with their opinions and religious beliefs.
Is that okay?

You're quite right, why else would i seek out a site like this?
So i guess i'll get straight into it.
I want to know what an atheist is.
More to the point, as I suspect a lot of you are in fact atheists; I want to know what you as an atheist believes individually.
Please for now, correct me if i'm wrong.
An atheist by my understanding is a person who denies the existence of a supernatural deity.
Thoughts?

Perfect. You've passed the exam. Sorry there are no ministerial badges or privileges. But you still get to fuk with as many minds as you want, so it's all good.

Hi and feel free to discuss things. I'm new too. I've only been here for a little over a month I think.

That is correct anon. And to be clear, "denies" of course doesn't mean it has to be absolute denial of possibility of Gods existence. It's a denial in terms of belief. Atheists don't believe in God, they can still believe that God is possible, it's just that they don't believe currently, not necessarily that it's impossible for them to change their mind.
Speaking for myself, I, like many other atheists - don't see God is impossible, I will believe if there is evidence. Until then there's in other words, no valid reason to believe.
So basically, an atheist is that which denies God, but it's in the sense of belief and not necessarily in the sense of knowledge. Atheists simply disbelieve God's existence, whether they believe it is possible for him to exist is a different matter. There are gnostic atheists (those who believe God is impossible) and agnostic atheists (those who believe God is possible, but not probable - so they don't believe)
So an atheist is just someone who doesn't believe in God, nothing more, nothing less. Everything else is optional. So as for individual beliefs, they vary.
Hope that helps?

I didn't think as a newcomer i would actually be examined so soon.
Please don't judge me so hastily.
What i mostly came here for is understanding.
I hope you all can help me.
I have opinions that are entirely up to you to read, but if they are then i would like for you to enlighten me; more so through intelligence and not so much spiritual as i do consider myself a person of logic and not of faith.
But as i do begin to write about these things you may think to yourselves that i'm looking deeper into the subject; deeper for example on a feud such as Evidence Vs Faith.
And i don't want you to think of the word deeper as more "intelligent" as i admit now that I don't consider myself to be an expert on this subject.
