Christianity Vs. Mormonism
#31
RE: Christianity Vs. Mormonism
I've got both mormons and christians swimming around in my gene pool. When they all get together it's never brought up. This always struck me as odd because I thought "saving souls" is what it's all about. It seems to me some of the souls are not going to the same place as the others. But what I always find fascinating is the disconnect my christians relatives will have when I talk about the mormon church. To them it's total hogwash. Yet there it is , a religion that piggy backed onto christianity. Is worth about 40 billion and has about 15 million true believers. All of this ocurring after the invention of the printing press. Yes, this total con job of a religion is flourishing...... but not for one scintilla of a second does the thought that "hey, maybe my religion got started in some similar fashion" ever enter their minds. Christianity piggy backed onto judaism. How is Joseph Smith that different from Paul. It all got its start in a time and place where the majority couldn't even read......hmmmmmmmm.

The trouble with the world is not that people know too little, but that they know so many things that ain't so.

It's really the same shit, Tara. Hey, the OT claims that 2 million "Hebrews" fled Egypt.

Silly numbers...like 185,000 Assyrians attacking Jerusalem and such.

Just made up shit.

Yeah, but god sent an angel and it killed those 185,000 Assyrians in one night. God actually loves to tell that story in heaven from time to time. He always finishes it the same way. He asks out loud "and do you know why I did that?" Then he pauses for a few seconds, and suddenly turns and punches a random angel right in the crotch. Then he stands over him and dramatically shouts "BECAUSE THAT'S HOW I FUCKIN' ROLLLLLLLL" and everyone laughs nervously while rubbing their testicles in sympathy.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

Yeah...and the Assyrians report that Hezekiah paid tribute and submitted to Assyrian control so they left him ruling a greatly reduced state.

The Assyrian version is much more believable.

Right now there's an angel in heaven, rubbing his aching balls and thinking "you mean it isn't even true???"

God can be a real dick sometimes.
