In the US -
Quote:A guardianship is a legal relationship created when a person or institution named in a will or assigned by the court to take care of minor children or incompetent adults.

I see nothing in the original story which indicates this was the case.

But do you think that parents have the right to treat their children like fucking slaves? I mean, you are pretty obviously a prick so nothing would surprise me but giving birth to someone does not mean you get to run their lives.

Do the world a favor and avoid procreating, huh.

Thank you, I agree. I do turn 18 soon and that is when I plan on being straight forward to people.

As to everyone: I don't want to be looked down upon because I am a minor or too young to have my own beliefs. I think at my age I have a right to believe in what I want to. This isn't me being bratty and saying "I want to do what I want to do." I just don't like the fact how atheism is looked down upon and I don't want to continue following something that I just can't get myself to agree with. Believe me, I've tried to become Christian again. But its hard when everything they are taught and worship is something I just can't believe.

Also thank you to everyone.

Welcome Big Grin

Don't tell them until you have your own place. Then tell them all you want. I'm happy for you. You're still young and realize it was all a joke. Good for you, smarty pants! Welcome and have fun. Smile

Careful, this kind of talk gets the fundies in a real uproar. Next thing you know, they'll tell you that you weren't really trying, or something similarly ridiculous.

Hang in there. It isn't your fault that religion makes people so intolerant and cruel. As others have advised, once you're old enough and have your life in order, let them know. They may do all kinds of unkindly things out of "love" but if the family bonds are strong enough they'll get over it in time.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

Bravo young one! As you can tell by the outwardly obtuse responses by the annoying Christian on here, your gut instinct about that which is impossible to swallow is right on! I'm 28 and still avoid talks with my mother. She depends on Christianity and couldn't function without it. Some people are too weak in certain mental respects and just have to continue justifying it to themselves at any extent. No matter how contradicing or ridiculous it is. They just cherry pick and conform. You've found the conclusion that many older folks are too warped to accept because they would be admitting too much failure. They've been convinced for too long. Their guilt outweighs their doubt. It's actually very sad. Enjoy life through your newly found clarity! Welcome to the outside of the cave!

It is one of the things that annoys me the most when people think they have the right to discount someone else's opinions, ideas, or beliefs simply on the basis of age.

As has already been said, it might be best not to say anything until you are absolutely sure you will be okay if they don't accept you.
While your conversion isn't totally similar to mine, I too asked why there had to be a god, and that is what turned me away from the idea. I think that is one of the most fundamental questions to theism, and if there is no reason as to why there has to be a god, why would there be one? I hope you like it here. Smile

HowdySmile I think you will like it around here. Coming out to your family and friends is hard to do. I went through HELL coming out and speaking my mind. Min is right, xtians will just demand conformity. Try to wait until your own two feet. I wish iI would've because iI would've had less struggles with my friends and family but then again I have a very low tolerance for bullshit so I would've struggled with keeping quite but a little less than coming out I believe. I eve foolishly tried going back in but a couple weeks later I was realizing that was easier said than done. This has been a great outlet for me and others from what iI see. Hopefully it will help you. Most people are real chill on here.
