I know what you mean. I don't like to call myself human or male or straight or right-handed or old. So many labels!

Thanks. So what's your deal, Statler? On a mission or just like to joust with the godless? Do you have an intro thread of your own around here that tells us your story?

Yes, I am on a mission from God……Tongue

No, no particular mission here; I probably had an introduction thread when I got on here a few years ago. I just enjoy the discourse on here, the moderators don’t overly moderate the board but they do enough to keep things moving along. I enjoy talking with atheists far more than I do with most Christians (a lot of Christians can be rather phony, and I just prefer how genuine for the most part posters are on here). I also find atheism itself to be incredibly interesting; they’re interesting people with interesting views on pretty much everything. What’s your story?

I heard there would be drugs and sex if I joined up as an atheist. Nothing yet.

Seriously this is a lively place with many interesting points of view and characters. I don't really have a problem with theists though I do find the idea of a personal god as popularly conceived easy to dismiss. But maybe there is room for something pretty special within the dynamics of the self/consciousness/soul/what-have-you. I don't think anything there gets you to an afterlife nor of course would it have any part in 'creation'.

No evidence of course. So that puts me in the same position as theists and perhaps that's why I have some empathy for your position.

Right? Where's all the drugs and sex!? Since deconverting I've quit the drugs, and I'm waiting till marriage for the sex! <<bass ackwards>>
If I were to create self aware beings knowing fully what they would do in their lifetimes, I sure wouldn't create a HELL for the majority of them to live in infinitely! That's not Love, that's sadistic. Therefore a truly loving god does not exist!

Quote:The sin is against an infinite being (God) unforgiven infinitely, therefore the punishment is infinite.

Dead wrong.  The actions of a finite being measured against an infinite one are infinitesimal and therefore merit infinitesimal punishment.

Quote:Some people deserve hell.

I say again:  No exceptions.  Punishment should be equal to the crime, not in excess of it.  As soon as the punishment is greater than the crime, the punisher is in the wrong.

The WIN/Gallup End of Year Survey 2013 found the US was perceived to be the greatest threat to world peace by a huge margin, with 24% of respondents fearful of the US followed by: 8% for Pakistan, and 6% for China. This was followed by 5% each for: Afghanistan, Iran, Israel, North Korea. -LINK

"That's disgusting. There were clean athletes out there that have had their whole careers ruined by people like Lance Armstrong who just bended thoughts to fit their circumstances. He didn't look up cheating because he wanted to stop, he wanted to justify what he was doing and to keep that continuing on." - Nicole Cooke
