Quite a shame how people respond
RE: Quite a shame how people respond
I sear more in real life than I do online. It's just how people talk in my area of London.

I don't give a shit if it offends people, it's not my problem if they are oversensitive shitheads.

All I can say is that I try to avoid cuss words or insults, though sometimes I will slip, and I avoid not because I'm a prude but as some have pointed out, because these words take away from your argument. That's what people will remember, the awful words and how awful you are. Those words become unnecessary distractions. And franckly, if I can't make my arguments without the cuss words or the insults then perhaps I don't have a good argument.

Possibly. But it's pretty easy to tell a good argument that's sprinkled with swear words from a bad argument which must be supplemented with them.

It's like putting just enough salt in a dish as compared to covering up the rancid meat with it.

Well put, but therein lies the problem. In argument, one is sometimes forced to cover the opponent's rancid meat as it's being shoved down the throat.

Few people here seem to have a problem after tasting said meat with laying it out on the floor in front of their opponent and saying "that's shit."

Really? That is your response to a debate proposition; google it? Use the search bar? So what are you doing on this forum that is so worthwhile that I can't find the same thing or better if if I googled it or if I used the search function? Perhaps you should take your own advice and use google or the search bar instead of posting here don't you think?

I don't come here looking for information or to preach, smart guy. I come here for conversation, and occasionally experiential information from people who have a better grasp of and better way of expressing information. Example: I have a question about geology, and I don't understand it after googling it, so I ask orogenicman to please put it in different words and different analogies so that I can get a better understanding of what's going on. But hopefully by now oro knows I wouldn't be asking him without having done some legwork myself FIRST.

You missed the whole part where these fuckers act like they're the first one to bring "The Word" to us. They don't show that they've done any research on atheists or atheism, they don't take the time to figure out the intellectual level of where their audience is. They don't take the time to establish a presence or their bona fides. They don't look to see if the discussion's already been had before they say the SAME. FUCKING. SHIT.

Over.

and over.

and over.

But no. We must be atheists because we haven't heard that argument before. Ever. Because it's such a good argument that it would convert anyone.

Bollocks.

I don't think you quite get how forums like this work. People come here to discuss things irrelevant of where else the information can be found. You can't respond to an argument in favour of the death penalty by telling the user to google the arguments (because yes, it has been done to death in countless websites and forums), and you can't tell a person who wants to discuss Obama's latest executive order to read the New York Times (which I'm sure it would cover at length, if not other websites). Forums just don't work like that. Just keep calm and take part Smile

I think you're trying to tell someone who has several thousand more posts than you in a forum how to do the forum thing just because you don't like that I told some dumb fucks to do some leg work (clipping my sentence out of context while you're at it) as part of an explanation as to why we get frustrated with certain theist posters.

Well, it turns out that clearly a person who has been here for more than 2 years still doesn't know how forums function, so what did you learn in your first two years here? It doesn't seem as though you learnt a thing and the fact of the matter is, I'm a member of more than just one forum, and might have more posts than you combined, but one thing is for sure, I won't have more than 8000 posts in an Atheist forum, so whilst the 8000 medal does look good, I won't be seeking it any time soon.
