Define Excuse?

What is an Excuse? I hear it all the time from my parent's mouths. If a excuse is the same thing as a reason of why, than my life is fucked up.

I wouldn't mix the genuine definition of the word with what parents use it for. If you have a valid reason for something, parents always still seem to label it simply as an excuse and then give you some hell. Just the way it is, homie.

It doesn't have to be a sufficient reason, it can be a factor that significantly made it harder to do a decision.

Great question, I think that reason and excuse suggest meanings (Maybe only to me) that are 180 degrees out compared to the social connotations attached to those words.

What the words suggest to me:

excuse - a reason that excuses your action

reason - reasoning that led you to believe that you could do something but does not excuse you of guilt

What society seems to think of the words:

excuse - an unreasonable fabrication to cover up ones guilt that does NOT excuse the person of guilt!

reason - A good explanation that provides an excuse

An excuse is a human method of rationalization that attempts to explain why one fucked up without actually accepting any responsibility for doing so, or while simultaneously blaming someone else.
