Supernatural phenomenon?
#11
RE: Supernatural phenomenon?
Some islands can sink, but they're much more temporary islands... every one of them does sink, or at least smack against a landmass for a very long time.

We had a little floating island of about 10 square feet drift across the lake once Thinking Never sank, though... ran aground in a shallow part of the lake, and some silt built up around it. Now it's just a clump of dirt and grass and moss sitting on the ground... BUT IT IS STILL AN ISLAND! Big Grin

A... really small one... but really, this is just pedantic: we understand your point.

We did, of course... I was eight Smile

And then we went to the sand pit, and played with toy cars. I seem to recall them crashing a lot.

Quote:Has anyone reading this not heard of the legend of Atlantis?

And have you not heard of the reality of Helike?

Quote:http://www.helike.org/

Quote:In 373 BC, a catastrophic earthquake and tsunami destroyed and submerged the ancient Greek city of Helike, on the southwest shore of the Gulf of Corinth. The sunken city gradually silted over until it disappeared without a trace. Ancient writers ascribed the disaster to the wrath of Poseidon, god of earthquakes and the sea.

Plato at the time was about 55 years old and living in nearby Athens. Gee. I WONDER where he got his inspiration from?

I do believe in these things. To make a connection to religion with it would be ridiculous, though.
Think with simplicity, and you will solve the most complex questions in the universe.

I'd have thought the beard was just for show... but I guess there's no better way to carry a bunch of salt on your person than with a beard Thinking
