This is going to be the first generation since the NES came out that I'm not going to buy a console. Not because of the consoles themselves, but because I'm trying to quit video games to focus on reading and writing. I think, however, if I was going to get one, I would get a PS4, but would probably wait a while as I expect it to have quite a hefty price-tag.
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell

Yeah... what was the PS3 when it first came out? Like $600? Pfft. I waited until it was under $300 and didn't like I was missing out on a thing.

Save the money on the PS4, and think about how many great games you could buy (or rent) with that money. The consoles themselves really aren't worth it this time around (you'd have to pay a massive price just to PLAY any of the games on it, then spend the price on the games). If it was a PS2, or an Xbox360: you have enough games available to you, at a cheap-enough pricepoint to justify their purchase. Maybe.
Or maybe you're some psycho-horder like me, and you just have to have anything you like ^_^

How about that backwards compatibility they removed from the PS3 to effectively make it worthless? Or the whole "you cannot install linux on this and use it as a server" move?
Good times, right?

Agree with all the above. I don't play too many games so the 360 and PC I've got are fine (I can upgrade the PC relatively cheaply if I'm desperate). I've got a TV and blu-ray player, so not sure why I'd want a console that tries to deliver what I've already got.
Pass.

I've got a monster machine with terrific connection, a PS1, PS2, PS3, N64, GameCube, XBox and XBox 360. Do I really need more consoles..?
(Actually yes, I want a NES..)
When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura

The only console I ever had was the FamiCom, also known as the poor man's NES.
It's been PC all the way since and I regret none of it!
I like FPS and can't understand how you can play those with the controller.... I once tried to play halo on a games fair... it was frustrating to just aim. Me likes keyboard+mouse!

Not that I want to do any advertising, but these guys have a pretty good collection of emulators:

Trying to play dragon age on the computer is a horribly difficult prospect that gets me killed on normal, whereas on console I've no little difficulty playing maximum difficulty setting, and drop party members. I cite these reasons: doorways, my character not immediately acquiring a new target, doorways, not utterly trivializing the game by playing a mage or even having one in my party (blood mages, psychotic control mages, healbots... retardedly OP broken unbalanced shit), doorways, really annoying zoom-out to see what little I can see just to move or attack, doorways, stopdps every time you reposition in attempt to orbwalk for backstabs, doorways, and did I mention doorways? Fuck doorways. And narrow corridors.
FPS is much worse, though... I go from being able to shoot fairly accurately, to being unable to perform anything complicated, and tasks that are second-nature on controller are mind-bogglingly frustrating to me.
It's all about experience. I can't play Halo Wars on consol, and C&C Red Alert is frustrating without a keyboard and mouse. Way I figure: if you have to control a whole lot of shit at once... keyboard and mouse usually better; if you have to control only one thing... controller usually better.
Reasons cited: focus, reaction speed, 'natural' triggers, presentation.

Well, there are controllers for the PC!
I use them to play on emulators!
