The Pledge of Allegiance...

The Pledge of Allegiance...
The government of the united states is supposedly all about separation of church and state, and yet the pledge that we recite every morning in our schools says "one nation, under God". I want to know other people's thoughts on this subject, because i think about it a lot.

I stopped reciting the pledge in high school; I stood and glared at the flag instead. Honestly, I do not understand the point in pledging allegiance to a fucking flag every morning. The under God part is just stupid, but the concept of saying "AMERICA - FUCK YEAH" every morning irks me more.

Well obviously it's bullshit. The ironic is that it's not even historically backed up bullshit. Under God was added to it in the 1950's as a cold war tactic to separate us from the Soviet Union. The arguments in favor of the pledge fail across all levels. People who try to make some historical argument from keeping the pledge need to remember that we existed fine for 100 years without it and society didn't fall apart. Also we had no problem changing the way that we used to do the pledge.

Firstly, Hello and welcome. Have some cookies. Cookie

Secondly, That phrase wasn't added until the 50's. I could say something about religious revival after and during the wars. But that is old news.

I don't think it should be in there, but the supreme court ruled on it in 2010. They said as long as the pledge was voluntary, it didn't violate students rights. Personally, I don't think most children know that it is voluntary.

I understand why religious people like having it.
I also think admitting those words is a very simple fix. I think an argument over it is pointless, unless it can actually change it.

When I was in JROTC class in High School I recited the whole pledge except "under God" and I meant it.
