Unconventional Religion
RE: Unconventional Religion
(September 3, 2013 at 8:35 am)Consilius Wrote: Awww…now that I HAVE told you who those quotes came from, you want to go on a little polemic. Watch out, it's atheist rage.
You forgot what we were talking about, didn't you? Apparently you can't attack what Eistein said, and, as I told you, your little box of numbers and figures simply can't be applied to the Bible passge.
But you would like to win this argument with a little rampage, wouldn't you?
I say there is more to life than rationality, and you call yourself a Freethinker but can't see anything beyond a fact sheet.
This is why you don't believe in altruism, and this is why this passage isn't going to make sense for you. Seeing that your misunderstanding correlates with your selfish philosophy, I'm not worried that what I've said is inadequate in any way.
This world isn't big enough for your kind. I think we're done here.
INSERT CONDEMNATION BELOW

Here comes the condemnation:

You seem to have lost your mind.

No, wait, that's not exactly true. Having lost a rational debate, you do what your kind have always done - babble incoherently about how "rationality isn't everything" and "there is more to life than facts" and display some sort of grandstanding to cover your utter and total humiliation.

Unfortunately for you, I haven't forgotten what we were talking about. We were discussing many different topics when you abandoned your other positions and focused on your Jesus lying. Being presented with Biblical evidence of the lie, instead of addressing it, you tries to divert the focus - presenting other things and asking if I'd call them lies. And after finding that given the same evidence, I most certainly would - you seem to have lost your shit.

For the record, I'm not applying any numbers or figures to biblical passage - why would I? - but even if I was, Einstein's views on the subject would be irrelevant. I'm not attacking Einstein because his presented view is irrelevant. If he held any Christian views, then I would attack those views.

By the way, given that you have given up on rationality and looking for something 'more', it means you have already lost this rational debate. And no, being a free-thinker does not mean I'd accept any crazy or insane idea that comes along. My understanding of reality most certainly correlates with my selfish philosophy - given that, as I've said, my philosophy is informed by my understanding. And no, the world isn't big enough for my kind.

If you want to run away from your own debate, that's your prerogative. So, we can establish that your religion - at no point in its existence - was unconventional. Like every other religion, it peddled bullshit, crazy ideas and was a tool to control people.

No, the problem lies in evolution in the fact that evolution is only dependent on reproduction. A successful society can reproduce centered around a false belief. The ancient Egyptians were successful for 3,000 years centered around the false belief that the sun was a thinking god.

The problem isn't Christianity or Islam or Hebrew or Mormon, the problem is that our species is part of an imperfect reality and credulity is part of that imperfect reality where false perceptions can over ride fact finding. What causes someone to believe in virgin births is the same crap that causes people to believe in Vishnu or Ouija boards. It boils down to if you want to believe crap bad enough, you will.

If he's like me, the motive is twofold, first is the faint hope that some of it will sink in a theist's thick skull, secondly, to counter with reason the silly superstitions put forth by theists so that others may know the rational answers.

And of course it's always a bit fun to play with the dimwitted.. but we wouldn't want to admit to that..

Ah yes...we always listen to fellow dimwits using reason, and rationality by calling us "fucking idiots".

What was I thinking?!

You know what else isn't unconventional? Your own belief system. Like so many others, you can't help but try to enforce the fact that you've somehow won this argument by ignoring everything I said. I'd expect something a little more mature from a so-called "rationalist".
By the way, your definition of bullshit = whatever isn't comfortable with you. I'm sorry if the world you live in doesn't exist to serve you.

I wish my belief system wasn't unconventional. Unfortunately for me, the majority existence of irrational lunatics like you makes it so.

And I'm not trying to enforce anything. Anyone reading this thread would find that I've addressed and refuted all of your points to the extent that you had nothing left and resorted to mindless ad-hominems. And that is precisely what I'd expect from a "Christian".

By the way, my definition of bullshit = irrational and crazy ideas unsubstantiated by reality. That I'm not comfortable with bullshit is incidental.

Well, this is interesting.
To wish your belief system was conventional would imply that you want it to be just like all other belief systems. Which is what I've been trying to tell you it already is.
Also, is there some sort of higher standard you hold Christians to? Honest question, considering the quotes around "Christian".
And you are condemning my use of ad hominems with ad hominems of your own. Very effective.

And this is the same person who just can't get over the fact that he has made some sort of landslide victory, and then appeals to the Internet for moral support.
I suppose this is a point for team atheism. And of course, the scorekeeper is the atheist I was arguing with.

No, to wish my belief system was conventional means I want it to be generally accepted. It isn't.

That was a dig at Christian preponderance for using the no true Scotsman fallacy.

No, I'm condemning your use of ad hominems by pointing them out - which, in a rational debate, is sufficient and effective basis to reject your argument. My own name calling is not used as an argument and therefore does not amount to ad hominem and is done purely for my own fun - you mangy cur.

Why would I 'get over' my landslide victory? Ofcourse I would celebrate it and want everyone to know about it.

It is. And yes, I will keep the score. Expect me to bring up this thread if you make the same nonsensical arguments you've made here.

Maybe you need a month to find an answer?

Do not assume that my overlooking your post means that I'm stumped by its contents. Quite to the contrary and to be blunt, your vapid posts typically do not get much of my attention. While I find Consilius to be thoughtful and open-minded and discussions with him to be interesting, I find your posts to be facepalmingly dense. I won't call you stupid but I will point out that you actually took YahwehIsTheWay seriously enough to exchange personal messages with him.

As for answering your question, Min took the initiative in my absence and did so with his usual excellence.
