Dividing by zero
#31
RE: Dividing by zero
I scrolled through 3 pages looking for good reply but didn't find any so I will do this myself.
You can't divide something by 0 because if you multiply anything by 0 you get 0.
So if you divide anything other then 0 by 0 there will be no solution because anything multiplied by 0 is 0.
And in case 0 divided by 0 any solution will suffice. That's why it's undefined.

For instance you can't multiply anything by 0 and get 4. That's why you can't divide 4 by 0.

You didn't read my post, apparently. [Image: coffeedrinker.gif]
Skepticism is not a position; it is an approach to claims.
Science is not a subject, but a method.

In 5 seconds of searching of my own, I can see that at least 2 people have said what you just said. If you're going to be a condescending braggart, at least have the courtesy to be right.

"Divide by zero" = "Divide by nothing"= "No Divide"

RE: Dividing by zero
The true reason, is that if you try to divide something by 0 it'll be infinite.
That's obvious from convergence, like
1/0.1 = 10
1/0.01=100
1/0.001 = 1000
so
1/0 = infinity.

RE: Dividing by zero
The limit of your sequence is infinity, but division by zero is still undefined and unanswerable.

Luke: You don't believe in the Force, do you?

Han Solo: Kid, I've flown from one side of this galaxy to the other, and I've seen a lot of strange stuff, but I've never seen *anything* to make me believe that there's one all-powerful Force controlling everything. 'Cause no mystical energy field controls *my* destiny. It's all a lot of simple tricks and nonsense.
