Saving Literature
I am watching the movie Oblivion and the two books the main character happen upon that were saved were of the classic literature variety. I find that extremely hard to believe.

Therefore, if there were to only be two books to survive in this world, what would be those two books?

There is one condition. The books cannot be classic. They must be popular modern fiction.

My two picks:

Dean Koontz's Breathless
Anne Rice's The Wolf Gift

I'm horrfied by the very idea that there could only be two books in the world.

Just be hopeful one of them is not a religious text.

One of them should be hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy, omnibus version that has the entire series(is this cheating?)

I can't decide for the other one. Dean Koontz is alright I guess. I've only read one or two of his, but I prefer Stephen King for horror books.

Stephen King is considered horror, but I never got a sense of fear from his books.

Dean Koontz is more of a psychological thriller writer.

Really? I get really freaked by his books. But I'm a lightweight when it comes to horror.

Right, Koontz is more of a thriller, agreed.

How modern is modern? No specific time limit was set.
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell
