RE: Running
Ran 3 miles today, nothing that great, but I got some mileage in, so that's always a plus. Smile

Happy running to all!

RE: Running
I used to love running, but I ruined my knees and now I swim. It doesn't compare.

Take care of your knees, people. You'll miss them when they're gone.

RE: Running
I'm not in a physical condition to run. But there's something almost magical (did I just say that? oops) about the simplicity and beauty of running. Several years ago, I attended a D3 NCAA postseason XC meet (it was both men's and women's). I love the color of a bunch of XCers just starting their run, and just the rhythm. When watching the olympics, one of my favorite events is the marathon, and I like the longer track events, too.

It's also a lifelong sport. The XC coach at Antelope Valley College up in L.A. County was in the news for ending a streak of running at least a mile (sometimes much more) every day since some time in 1968 (IIRC) when he was varsity XC at what is now Cal State-Fullerton.

Doing something simple and good for you for the love of it (but having a related paying job as well).

Swimming is awesome exercise. Do you like using the eliptical? I hate it lol, but some people love it, if they have knee issues from running. What I enjoy about running, is the outdoors. It's pretty liberating after dealing with stress all day at the office or something.

sorry, no correlation to my comment, i just wanted to use this emoticon. Big Grin 4 Horsemen

Yes, but... it's not the same as running. I used to feel like I was FLYING when I hit that runner's high. I can't have that feeling anymore.

I can't stand to do my cardio exercise indoors- it just feels totally wrong. I use a pilates training machine inside for core stuff and resistance, but I have to get my heart rate up outside. Doing all that moving while staying in the same place on an elliptical? It just feels really weird. So I swim, which I do like. I just don't love it like I loved running.

I totally agree, running sometimes is like therapy after a stressful day. I'm sorry you can't anymore. Sad Cycling is a close second for me. But more to worry about when I'm on the road riding as opposed to running. I got clipped once when I was riding.

I also agree about the elliptical, I find it a chore.

I find I get no feeling of exercising when I work on an elliptical, it's an exercise in controlling the momentum of the machine, IMO.

I'm getting to be that way more and more, but then again winters 'round these parts are fairly miserable (cold and rainy) so I end up having to move running to a treadmill inside which sucks ass. The weather just turned in the last two or three weeks so I haven't been able to get outside to run, like, at all. Today and this week are looking clear so I hoping to suit up and go out for at least a walk at lunchtime.

I was planning on pre-training in Ocotober, November and December so that when half-marathon training rolls around in January I can work on speed training but with the crappy weather and my loathing for running on treadmills I'm wondering if I'll even get there. My pre-training goal was 4-miles easy running (I took the summer off), now I'm back to huffin' it doing 2-miles. Sad At least I'm cross-training, but it's not running.

Ah, well, lesson learned: don't take summers off.

RE: Running
Started dieting and exercising just after the start of the year. I've gone from 104kg to 78kg(ish). My goal is to run in a 5k race, which I shall be doing next year. I much prefer running indoors, lets me keep perfect track of my times, weather is never an issue and it can be done at any time of the day.

Middle of month January: 15 mins @ 7k (damn was I unfit)
End of month January: 20 mins @ 7k
End of month February: 25 mins @ 7k (Injury this month [hyperextended toe])
End of month March: 29 mins @ 7k
End of month April: 30 mins @ 7.8km/h
End of month May: 30 mins @ 8.3km/h (Injury this month [blisters])
End of month June: 30 mins @ 9.3 km/h
18/7/13 = running 5km for the first time, done at 10km/h

End of month July: 10.2km/h for 5km = 29.24 mins
End of month August: 10.7km/h for 5km = 28:02 mins
End of month September: 11.8km/h for 5km = 25:25 mins
Nemo me impune lacessit.
