Chinese leadership engages in new enviormental policy
Quote:China has changed course and announced an ambitious new plan to push sustainable energy. The initiative by Li Keqiang's government signals a turning point in the country's approach to the environment -- and could mean big business for Germany.

There's a tipping point in development where the middle class becomes big enough that concern for quality-of-life starts to become an economic driver.

You mean their approach to the environment that doesn't involve polluting the shit out of it?

RE: Chinese leadership engages in new enviormental policy
I have read reports on riots and protests in China in which the population expresses it`s anger over air, water and soil polution. The rate of cancer patients, people with asthma and the rate of illnesses caused through polution is rising and people are well aware of the causes and of the responsibility liying with the goverment pushed economy.

So I am concluding that enviormental policy is no longer just simply a a question of image for the Chinese leadership, but a question of keeping social stability and avoiding dissent. After all, even a dictatorship can only rule with the populations support.
