RE: What's everyone up to right now?

At Ravinia for the Counting Crows concert. It was the first “parking lot is full, please find overflow parking” concert of the year.
But first, a little digression on bread. A few years ago, I discovered that Fleischmann’s started selling bread mixes. By an insane coincidence, the first time I made one, I was watching
The 49th Parallel, and by an extraordinary coincidence, around the same time the Nazis were hiding out in a Hutterite colony and one of them was rediscovering his love for baking (which led to his defection and summary execution), Dad called me and asked if I wanted to make some bread. And for some reason, it ended up a little Ravinia tradition for us, especially after Mum died. However, last year, the Fleischmann’s mixes stopped showing up in the supermarket. And then, we looked for other alternatives. Eventually, we bought a bunch of bags from Prepared Pantry, and, a few weeks ago, I decided to make our inaugural loaf of the season.
Here’s the weird thing: it claimed that the yeast was enclosed in the mix. It was not. So, I found an additional yeast packet in the pantry and put it in. Then I read the instructions:
So it was already mixed in with the mix already and that was what that meant? So I tried it again yesterday. I should point out that I used the same procedure as last time except I didn’t add an additional packet of yeast and I gave it more time to rise. So, here’s what it looked like out of the oven:
As you can see, The bread did not, in fact, rise. Evidently, the yeast in the mix is not enough for a proper rise. The bread is chewy, but edible and fairly tasty.
This week in the Deep Hurting Project:
I Know Who Killed Me. After something as formulaic as
LOL, I’m looking forward to seeing a movie so incoherent they need to have Art Bell from
Coast to Coast AM stop the movie to explain what’s going on because the movie’s doing such a shitty job of it.
