What if being treated like a doormat and a refusal to stand up for yourself isn't what your audience respects?

You see that ship out there? What? What's that? You don't see a ship?

Well, I guess that one's already sailed.

I can see where the OP is coming from and I appreciate his/her intentions. It appears that it comes from a place of respect and tolerance. ♥

It also comes from a person who registered in 2012 and has only spent around a day's worth of time in total here a the forums. I remember when I started. Ah, the passion. The investment. The dedication. It was during the jstrodel era. It didn't take long for me to figure out that you can't take things too seriously and sometimes you just have to laugh it out.

In my case, the "sometimes" has turned to "most of the time", but that's just me. This is my happy zone in an otherwise stressful world.

I say pick your battles. There will be those who are worth your effort and respect. Take those seriously if you like. Have a healthy discussion and make good use of any special argumentation skills you might have. There will be those who are just full of it, so don't mind those who wish to play around with the excess shit that overflows from their contributions.

As for me, I'll just keep cruising the forums being incredibly useless while making use of my dirty joke skills, contributing my honest opinions only when the subject in hand is something I am invested in, which happens rarely.

My last words for you:

Chill, dude.
Pointing around: "Fuck you, fuck you, fuck you, you're cool, fuck you, I'm out!"

Personal attacks turn conversations into a matter of winning or losing, instead of trading ideas that promote growth and understanding.

Even if I think an idea is beyond rational, this doesn't mean that every thought in someone's head is irrational. So, I am returning to the art of focusing solely on the topic and not the person behind each reply.

If I ever find myself debating any topic outside of the internet, I want to know that, even if my position is wrong, I came away with the respect of my audience.

Weakling... You've been here for a month and you've let yourself get dragged into cursing and insulting... tss tss tss.
I've been here for a year and... can't remember insulting anyone... Wink

Others have managed similar feats, if not even longer!

Repeat 10x: I am a weak person. I am an evil person. I need to worship poca the friendly alien!

Well, I must say...well, in the case you have run-ins with posters, it obviously helps to keep polite. Even if someone insults you with swearwords, know that words said over the internet mean little. But personal attacks, yes, I had my fair share of them. Whenever I see them, I only point them out, instead of replying to them. Once you point them out, they cease to continue.
Can't blame the people though, I could say that I'm probably some of the more "controversial" posters here.
