Liberal Kid vs homeless man

You told them, but the saddening part of this story is that they probably didn't hear or understood you, just making them think they are justified in their narrow-mindedness. I don't get how hard it can be for Christians (sorry for generalizing, but I assume that most of the conservatists are) to get one of the most important tenets of their own beliefs; to be charitable, do not own and be good to other people.
When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura
"Just let them die"
Ah, the true monstrosity reveals itself... He who lives by the sword oughta be neck bitchslapped by the sword. Slave to the Patriarchy no more
What really sucks about the story is that I suspect that a good percentage of the people who "like" it or whatever the fuck they do on Facebook -- if actually approached at home by a homeless person offering to do those chores -- would turn them away with some snide remark about finding a real job one minute before calling the cops to report a suspicious vagrant prowling their neighborhoods.
Quote:"Just let them die" Hey, the shitstains shut down the government to prevent people getting health care. How much of a difference is there?
I have to admit, there's been tons of comedy from this shutdown, with the GOP so cutely insisting that it's the President's and Senate's fault for not giving into their political terrorism and nobody but Tea Tardies agreeing with them.
Not sure the cure for homelessness is to give people homes. Those people might have had homes already and lost them for various reasons, giving them a new one is not going to cure the problems that led them down the wrong path to begin with.

The idea is not that it cures homelessness per se, but that it can help some of the people. A good many of them just need someone to be held accountable to. Meaning, they need to be treated like kids in a sense and given responsibilities. If you take them off of the street, you can save money by not having to pay for medical bills. Especially in some places that are not as nice year-round as those in warmer climates.
And this is where the "out of sight, out of mind" concept is the most damning. If we really do want to help our veterans, it means not turning our back on them when they get home. (I am certainly guilty of not dropping change in the bucket of every homeless person I meet, but I certainly support government assistance for them using taxes)
Like much of our problems in America, we could make great strides against the problem of homelessness if we would more focus on proper mental health treatment.
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell
