Why
November 6, 2013 at 7:36 pm
Someone at school today asked me the following question:
¨Why did you turn away from God?¨
So, I told him this deconversion story:
In 2006, I was informed that my grandmother had fallen ill. My first instinct was to turn to God. The day after I prayed, she died.
In 2011, my other grandmother fell ill. I turned to God once again. The day later, my family visited her in the hospital room.
When we came in, we found her dead.
In december 2011, I found out that I had teen depression. Once again, I foolishly turned to God.
Then, I did something I thought as drastic. I turned to satan. Nothing happened.
I became agnostic.
After thinking about it for a while, I moved on to fully denying the existence of God.
As of that day, I am atheist.
¨I contend that we are both atheists, I just believe in one fewer god than you. When you understand why you dismiss all other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours.¨

I had to give you kudos for turning to Satan.
That's a first I've heard in deconversion stories.

It provided pretty conclusive evidence against god, since it didn't work in the slightest.
Also, I just spent 20 minutes trying to figure out your profile picture.

It's an optical illusion in which there are only black circles with lines in them, but the brain constructs the image of a box. It's a representation of how the human brain is hardwired to see things that aren't actually there and how our senses aren't completely accurate reflections of reality.
