What was I even ever thinking?

What was I even ever thinking?
Ever since I officially was deconverted, or as I would say, I deconverted myself, I constantly find remorse in how absolutely, well, ignorant I was as a Christian. I mean, I was way younger (I'm 15.) It's still just, so embarrassing to even think that:

1. I was baptized, barely even knowing why, just thinking "Well if my parents say it's real, I should believe it, blah blah blah."

2. I was persistent to only believe what I was taught in the churches I attended.

3. I was rude to anybody who had different beliefs than me, and tried to explain to me that I was being brainwashed in the most respectful way possible.

(I give those people SO much respect, by the way. If some snotty 8-9 year old rolled their eyes at me when I tried something like this, I might be locked away.)

It's absolutely embarrassing, but I guess slightly humorous. Am I the only one who sort of looks back on the religious version of themselves with disgust?

THat's what indoctrination can do to you.

You close your mind and have no thoughts on other points of view except to mock them, or just close your mind to other perspectives (and yes, I've seen this trait in atheists, too).

You can't go back and change your past, just remember not to become a close-minded atheist, too. Mock when need-be. Question as often as needed. But try to discuss things when possible.

Look at it this way. In the middle east they'd expect you to wrap yourself in dynamite and blow yourself to smithereens for allah. So, things could have been worse. Yes, xtians act like pompous douchebags most of the time. Better than murdering douchebags.

I look back on my brief spans of being 'imbued with the power of the spirit' and think much as you do.
Shameful, but

I learned.
And now I live.

This is why we need to fight every Christian politician who wants to sneak a theocracy in through the backdoor. We already know what happened when Christianity dominated European politics up until a few hundred years ago. Give them the chance to turn back the clock to the 11th century, the way that secularism was subverted by fundamentalism in the Islamic world, and we'll end up with the same sort of nightmare they have today. Christianity is fundamentally just as violent as Islam, it's just that humanist ideas have crept in and neutered the fundamentalists of the religion. If we give them their balls back, they'll be applying hot irons to ours before long.
