I can remember a Christmas morning... "Santa" had brought a slide (don't ask me how he managed to get it down the chimney) and set it up in the living room with pillows at the bottom. I remember how much fun my sister and I had that day and how disappointed we were when Dad said we had to move it out to the backyard. I think I was 3 or 4.

Dad sounds like a dick.

The man I've described was a very bad father, but I never thought of him as a dad until recently. I sought out my "father" two years ago, and I found the man I now call "dad". We've both grown so much. I love my dad.

Amazing. What in the world does he say about his behavior then?

That's fucking horrible. If it has given you peace to forgive this man who fathered you, good for you. But I wish I had a time machine and sock full of quarters (an excellent jaw-breaker, I hear).

I don't have many memories of my father, because he wasn't around much, but nobody ever hit me as a child, and I'm damned grateful for it.

Don't you have a good memory or two to share to balance out those images?
