I'm guessing because taxpayers, as a rule, don't get a say in how their money is spent. Personally, I wouldn't want my money going into paying for royal weddings, legally-dubious wars or paying off foreign drug lords in the name of diplomacy or whatever, but until the forms come printed multiple-choice there's not much I can do about it.

But you're obfuscating. Either you dislike abortion so much that you will take the steps necessary to reduce it, or your real problem is really one with women having sexual freedom and control over their own reproductive destinies.

Statistics have consistantly shown that exposure to education on how to use birth control reduces the chances of unwanted pregnancy. Ease of getting that birth control reduces those chances even more.
But if you want to be some rugged individualist who doesn't ask the government for anything and doesn't want anything in return, that's fine, too. I'll even help you buy your plane ticket to Somalia, so you don't have to worry about some big mean government.

The same reason you pay taxes for males who need financial support: because government support shouldn't be conditional on life choices that you find immoral.

I can't believe that in a discussion about the morality of life and death, about a when a person becomes a person and to what degree a state has the right to over ride a woman's freedom to be in control of her own body...

Although poorly articulated, I think dandaan's question was something along the lines of:
What if you got raped by a Muslim and got pregnant? Would you consider an abortion then?
Not sure how that is relevant but I don't think he was trying to make rape seem funny.
