Dutch woman convicted of having sex outside marriage after rape

A court in Qatar has convicted a Dutch woman of having sex outside marriage after she told police she was raped.
The 22-year-old was handed a suspended sentence and fined $824 (£580). She will also be deported.
Her lawyer said her drink had been spiked at a Doha hotel in March and she had woken up in a stranger's flat, where she realised she had been raped.
Her alleged attacker, who said the sex was consensual, was sentenced to 100 lashes for having sex outside marriage.
He will be given a further 40 lashes for consuming alcohol.

Well, same as Saudi Arabia. One of our very best friends. Might be time to call asshole regimes what they are. It also might take some pressure out of the Middle East, since we're not seen to support every shithole because it plays ball by our rules.

Do moderate Muslims practice Sharia law? Or should I go ahead and lump Qatar in with the rest of the loonies? I'm having a difficult time with the distinction these days.

She's lucky to be deported, I hope she doesn't go back.
Both sentences are unacceptable in my opinion. No one should be convicted of or sentenced for being raped. That's insane. Also...no one should be beaten for any reason...ever. Especially not by the government.

It's happened before and it will happen again. It's so tragic. But as Atlas has pointed out, most people in Wahaabi-Salafi land are secretly Atheists.
I'm not holding my breath for Hilary to do anything about these Fascists if she becomes president. Saudi has given millions to the Clinton Foundation. Like Hilary says, her presidency will me more of the crap we've become used to. If she really cared about women (and homosexuals) as she claimed then she'd cut ties with these Fascists and she would have never sold them billions in military hardware - as she did as Secretary of State.
EDIT: And I don't think that Donald will either, just so that everyone is aware. Contemporary Western foreign policy is disgusting. It always baffles me that Saudi gets all this love like flying flags at half-mast for their deceased royalty.
