Is aging a thing of the past?

I mean at the moment it's inevitable. Some of us will die younger, some will live to lose our dignity and become a burden to those we love, but we all die sooner or later. Hoe much worse if any death represented the loss of centuries of joy instead of mere decades!

I haven't thought about it to be honest. I've even put a lot of thought into this. I'm assuming though that if you along with the people you care about are living these kind of lifespans you'd all pretty well come to grips with life, and not be as devastated when someone did pass on. The issue i think is most pressing would be your perception of time.

After a few thousand years centuries would probably start to feel like years, and days wouldn't even register for you anymore.
There is no God, so can we please get back to science?

If we had the technology capable of granting ourselves indefinite lifespans, we also likely have, or are close to having, means by which to negate the effects of overpopulation and a way of "backing up" our neural patterns so that even accidental death can be reversed.

I'm a transhumanist and intend to live as long as possible. I do not have any children and nor do I intend having any so I am not responsible for any over population. Frankly its not up to others to decide if its 'ethically ok' for me to extend my life.

No. I'm sure it's a matter of time though before medical sciences progress enough to extend the life span. But of course, that will put a burden on overpopulation (Like we don't have enough people on the rock as is).

These kind of opinions are so infuriatingly doltish.

First of all when the cure for aging is found, do you really think that people will continue sticking their dicks into vaginas without the use of a condom.
Yes, of course they will, but only idiots, self eradication like bacteria Clap

Second of all, ever considered accidents, disease, crime, human error, etc, etc, etc, besides at that point, human reproduction will be less an necessity for survival of our specie and more based on having a nice balance between our resources and the human population, a balance.

Likewise, nobody is forcing you to live forever, suicide is always an option.

Also intracellular and extracellular aggregates are big boys within aging, as well as being the cause for Parkinsons, Alzheimer, dementia, and various other diseases which affect the elderly brain. Look up beta-amyloid.
Aging is intercorrelated with mental illnesses, so solving aging to its fullest will heal all age related mental illness, if I am not mistaking.

What does one have to do with the other?

What does one have to do with what other?
Oh, I totally forgot religious people. silly me.
It took me some time to figure this out I think, my intellect is not much to boast about.
So what you basically mean, is that these very intelligent religious people would oppose the use of contraception therefore the world would start to be overpopulated. Did I get it? :S

It's kind of painful to think tyhat there will ever be a cure for aging. Besides what has been mentioned that our bodies are composed of many systems (so, just because your lungs are OK doesn't mean your kidneys are), I can think of two issues that concern me. 1) Suicide would become a given. 2) What about infrastructural issues, such as retirement pension? If our lifespans become infinite, but our bodies are ready to retire from the workforce by 65, similar to now, how the hell do we pay for anything? Government would be bankrupt. Go back to 1)

I dont know, but all of those would be solved somehow and eventually, dont be so pessimistic. You made me depressed.
No it`s no painful at all when you face your own death through a fucking bad trip on drugs. Besides those who find the thought of infinite lifespans are retarded cocksuckers.
Not that you are, just ranting a bit Angry

I assume that the age for retiring would be nearer 2000 years than 65, and also quite frankly working can be quite fun, working is not a bad thing, if your body works in a nicely, slick and smooth manner, use it to help the community with your service.

I seriously doubt that most pensioners aren`t bored to death after 20 years of not contributing to the wholeness, however obviously since their bodies at that time would be more equivalent to a 20 years old, I doubt they would be bored to death, there would be so much fun to do.

Maybe there would be some sort of agreement done that every 5 years of work you would get 1 year of doing watcha want. These a trifle issues, and I view them as nothing more than easily solvable problems.

Also, I imagine people having the same concerns when the vaccine was invented, and when transplantation were started being performed, and when aspirin was issued.

Basically.

They couch it with horseshit like "life is sacred" or "god wants ..." but the simple fact is that they always want more sheep in the flock.
