That story doesn't really explain why it's wrong, though. If it was, why were they naked in the first place?

Because when right and wrong are defined by the whims of a single, prudish superdictator, it became wrong because God said so.

I suspect it's one of many social constructs that evolved to encourage exclusivity of sexual partnering, which itself is a mechanism for improving the efficiency of transmission of desirable traits, as well as an adaptation to living at higher latitudes and in variable climes. In short, nakedness, shame, privacy, exclusivity, and so on, are likely evolved psychological mechanisms which ultimately have survival value for our species. I've got a book on evolutionary psychology somewhere around, I'll see if it says anything about it.

I'm pretty sure that Adam and Eve is a puberty myth. Eve discovers her sexuality first, because girls develop earlier. Then she seduces some poor schmoe.

That accords well with western culture today: people let their 5 year-old kids run naked at the beach or something. 13 year-old daughter, not so much.

Quite a few people see it as a metaphor for puberty. Though that doesn't make much sense either, since if he didn't want Humans to breed, why make us breedable, and why would it be wrong?

The whole story is kind of messed up, and it isn't the only one in the OT.
