What is WKD?
I am into Jamison's on the rocks with a teaspoon of water. If you have never had irish whiskey, the trick to acquiring the taste is to add water and soon you will only need a little bit.
Brandy is more of a summer thing for me so I chose whiskey but... brandy poppers are where it's at! You get a double shot glass fill 3/4 with brandy then top off with sprite; cap the top with your hand then WHAM! smack it on the table then drink it down!

Indeed. It's an education to sit in just about any pub in Ireland and watch one of the local drunks add a single drop of water to his Jamesons.

Wow, that far gone and they bother with water? Why even maintain the pretense? I actually need a little water, but only on the first one.

Me thinks they put it in a shot glass. So why would they put any more water in it?
As of the last few days Rhizo, I have been having my whisky just by itself. No water added. It has more of a kick if you don't put water in it. 
But oh man Jonny Walker red label but itself is to much! I definaely need to put water in that!!

Common throughout Ireland,I saw it as a ritualistic drinking custom. Such quirky behaviour is common with heavy drinkers and alcoholics everywhere. --not to mention the rest of humanity with their eccentricities and petty superstitions. Human beings are not consistently rational animals.

There are only a few whiskey's I add water to, and only a small amount because the flavour comes out better then. Also don't drink any whiskey's too cold. They should be kept at room temperature for the best taste.
I prefer Islay single malts, like Laphroaig and Lagavulin. But I recently came by an Irish Whiskey named Connemara sherry cask, which was also very nice indeed.

Single malt Scotch for me too leo, though i prefer Speyside to Islay, both are definitely better in general to Highland and Lowland. preferably single oak cask and 10+ years (i guess the single malt appeal is more than flavor, it is also the idea that the whiskey was distilled and aged by the same operators): stored in a cool, dark place - but not refrigerated. Few cubes of ice to bring the flavors out and drop the temperature another few degrees, i guess it is around 10-14c would be my preference, room temp being around 18-22. Will use water if i have no ice, but only for single malts, blended malt seems to clash with a little water in it but then again it's entirely dependent on the distilleries and casks used.
Speyside scotch in general is my favorite, but there are loads of excellent whiskeys from other regions.
One whiskey i do not think even deserves association with the word whiskey would be the bourbon whiskeys, especially sour-mash... I like Bourbon in premixes like Woodstock and Kentucky State, but i can't stomach that shit straight.
