Why so serious?

Why so serious?
If you're right why so serious? Are the blasphemy laws really necessary? What can your god not take care of himself? Now an all-powerful being needs you to defend him at every turn?

'You can have all the faith you want in spirits, and the afterlife, and heaven and hell, but when it comes to this world, don't be an idiot. Cause you can tell me you put your faith in God to put you through the day, but when it comes time to cross the road, I know you look both ways.' - Dr House

“Young earth creationism is essentially the position that all of modern science, 90% of living scientists and 98% of living biologists, all major university biology departments, every major science journal, the American Academy of Sciences, and every major science organization in the world, are all wrong regarding the origins and development of life….but one particular tribe of uneducated, bronze aged, goat herders got it exactly right.” - Chuck Easttom

"If my good friend Doctor Gasparri speaks badly of my mother, he can expect to get punched.....You cannot provoke. You cannot insult the faith of others. You cannot make fun of the faith of others. There is a limit." - Pope Francis on freedom of speech

Quote:An infinite God ought to be able to protect himself, without going in partnership with State Legislatures. Certainly he ought not so to act that laws become necessary to keep him from being laughed at. No one thinks of protecting Shakespeare from ridicule, by the threat of fine and imprisonment.

Well, since I believe that blashphemy laws indicate the presence of a theocratic regime, the blasphemy laws must have some sort of a basis in the fiqh.
If so, theres not much to be said about it, because the scholars that established the fiqh already had a reasoning for it.

What if the reasoning was bad?

Almost certain to be bad if it relies on primitive superstition.

Did you seriously just answer a question of why something is the way it is, with "because reasons"? Thinking

It's mostly political reasons these days. Although I'm never sure if the people enforcing it really believe in the superstitions or are doing it to manipulate the people. I've always thought they're too smart to actually believe that blasphemers should die because some book says so, but people can really surprise you when it comes to stupidity.

Islam says kill apostates, but it does not say kill munafiqs. Because Islam does not perceive hypocrites as a threat itself. The threat are apostates, the person who declared that rejected Islam. Because when someone declared that refuse the religion he/she also revealed the reasons why he refused the religion. When he/she do this, it will be seen that the king is naked. This is what scares the bigots.
