Question for agnostics and atheists

Question for agnostics and atheists
I'm new, but I'm trying to find some answers and hopefully you guys/girls can help.
I know this is kind of a broad question but,

What is the general view of the average atheist regarding reality as it pertains to causality or just reality generally? Thanks!

Well, let's start with asking you what your view is and then maybe we can work from that Smile

RE: Question for agnostics and atheists
Well for start there is no such thing as an average atheist. I mean Raelians are atheists but apart from a disbelief in gods I have nothing in common with them. So there is a problem with your question right there.

Sorry,so far I have no reason to trust you. I'll be happy to discuss your question once I'm convinced you're sincere, and not simply another disingenuous apologist with an agenda.

I support Darwinian; you first.

I don't really see where trust falls into this I'm asking for everyone else's view not defending mine as most apologists do, but I am not in the least disingenuous. However, this will probably result in me inadvertantly defending my views as the best place to start as previously noted is my view. I wish I had a more specific way to ask the question. I apologize for being a slight apologist by the meer method of the machine.

In response to leo-rcc I agree that is was far too vague and I am tired. Perhaps I just wanted some non-theist views on the world

In response to the first response, perhaps that would be a good place to start.

I believe that for every action there is an opposite reaction. I believe that the percieved reality considered "the world" on a (physical level) is constructed by action and reaction. The sole root of the action in said world is based out of conscious thought, subconscious thought or belief.

That's a stat but I've been working all night and I'm pretty tired. I'll start early in the shift tomorrow with more.

There are no average atheists. An atheist does not believe in god and that's an end to it. One atheist may be an extreme left-winger while another may be an extreme right-winger. They might disagree on almost everything (politics, morality, abortion, sports, etc, etc). It is possible the only thing common to both is a lack of belief in god.

I don't have any philosophical attitude to "reality". I just plod along, doing what comes naturally, and seem to be getting along OK. I can tell you, though, that my "reality" does not have room for miracles. For example, I don't believe that Jesus walked on water. Do you?

I don't think there is such a thing as the avarage atheist. We all happen to agree that god or gods do not exist, but outside the topic of religion our opinions can differ greatly.
My perseption of reality might not be too differant from yours, apart from the religious aspect of it. I do not believe in the existence of god or gods, some afterlife, spirits/souls and such. Nothing supernatural. That's pretty much it. I tend to favour chances and random natural events than pre-plained ones. I don't believe in fate or anything like that.

Mankind's intelligence walks hand in hand with it's stupidity.

Being an atheist says nothing about your overall intelligence, it just means you don't believe in god. Atheists can be as bright as any scientist and as stupid as any creationist.

You never really know just how stupid someone is, until you've argued with them.

My view entirely. Let the philosophy types rabbit on if they enjoy it, meanwhile I'll deal with life as I find it. For me this means ignoring supernatural beings which I don't find in reality but opposing religion because of the real harm I see it doing.

Without gods to give us our morals, at least a fair number of us construct our own ideas of reality. Others just keep the same ideals as we had from our religion.

There really is no general opinion among atheists bar religion (and even that we have differing opinions on).

RE: Question for agnostics and atheists
How would you go about working out what an average atheist is?

...I know... have a poll and we'll call the most popular 'average'. What are the options?
