I admittedly smoke the house with sage every New Years Day and Lent more out of tradition than superstition
No superstitions as such but I do catch myself thinking in ways that connect me to the universe that are obviously ludicrous looking at it cold.
For example. I am watching my team play football. I need to go to the loo. I "know" that if I go they will score and I will miss it. Now really I do know there is no connection between my toilet visit and the game. All the same - they always bloody do!
Kuusi palaa, ja on viimeinen kerta kun annan vaimoni laittaa jouluvalot!
I have "spells" where I become superstitious or religious for a while, and then just as suddenly get over it. I'm deeply religious if that counts, though I wouldn't put that in the same league. I think of superstitions as primarily the result of an episode of faulty learning, so anyone can pick up a superstition at any time, as it's only partially a function of personality traits like skepticism, religiosity, and credulity. This is probably why superstitions are such a prominent part of sports. Athletes are constantly trying to learn, so more faulty episodes of learning will occur, with stronger motivation to maintain it. I have the feeling my "spells" are caused by something neurological, but I think it's perfectly natural for ordinary, mentally healthy people to have similar spells of lesser intensity. Skepticism seems to be the norm for me. ![]() (February 23, 2014 at 1:54 pm)max-greece Wrote: No superstitions as such but I do catch myself thinking in ways that connect me to the universe that are obviously ludicrous looking at it cold.
