If the only people I got along with were atheists, I would miss out on a lot of my most special friendships. If I ruled out anyone who didn't believe in a specific tenet like free will, well, then, the pool gets smaller.

Branch out! Learn to like the differences in people. There are certainly deal breakers (I can't be around evangelicals or fundies), but for the most part, life's cool when you accept all kinds.

This is excellent advice. Everyone is unique. Some people are very closely matched, but no two people are alike or believe exactly the same things. Once you learn to be comfortable with yourself, if won't matter if other people are different from you. In fact, it makes the world nicer. Smile

If I were forced to put a label on OP, I'd probably call him a deist. Unitarian might fit, too.

Either way, there are probably people out there like you. Just keep that open mind.

Me, I don't care what you or anyone else believes as long as you aren't either stupid or an asshole about your beliefs.

I haven't seen that in years. I forgot how hilarious it was.

ie: i believe in a god, but dont believe in bible stuff, the closest i come to fitting with are liberal christians but its very frustrating because ALL the other liberal Christians I have met around the world offlne and online believe in the concept of 'free will' and I don't believe in free will at all.

so its very frustrating and i feel like Im all alone Sad

Try starting your own religion. Just make a lot of fanciful crap up. It really doesn't matter what it is. Your first converts will be women, so try to get some rich ones. Pay some well-known people to be your cheer leaders and PR people. Tell people what they want to hear in exchange for their money. And be sure to demand a lot of their money as a sign of their belief and faith. Before you know it you will surrounded by adoring fans telling you what a wonderful guy you are.

You may get a kick out of reading up on Christian Gnosticism.

There's a new-age revival which is bunk, but the historical sources are actually very interesting. The Gnostics believed knowledge was the highest attainable good, and interpreted scripture widely as metaphor.

There are also some very early texts considered heretical, because they don't fit the canon, but have been dated to 2 AD.
