Here in Australia we got mostly desert or arid situation and despite this we export food.

Wow. Can't see past today, huh? The world just came frighteningly close to global economic collapse. If it had happened (or, when it WILL happen) do you honestly think the farmers will hand over their produce for free? And if they did, do you honestly think the distributors are going to use their trucks to drive this produce in the cities for free? And if they did, do you honestly think the gas stations are going to fuel up those trucks for free? And if they did, do you honestly think the store owners are going to give away the food for free?

All it will take is one global economic collapse and all 7 billion of us will run into the woods to kill and eat every living thing on land, in the air, and in the water.
