Because he gave "free will" to people with the caveat that if you practiced that free will and refused to believe in something for which there is absolutely no evidence, then you will be tortured forever. Either you accept God's gift, or choose to be with his exact opposite, Satan. Sorry, but you must show that a soul exists before you claim that it has to go somewhere. Until that point, I'll maintain that neither is, in fact, a choice. When you are saying that this choice that you are proposing isn't a bad thing, you are presupposing a belief in god, JL1. If you are sitting on my side of the fence, then you'd see that turning off my brain and dumping all of the knowledge I have that contradicts the existence of anything supernatural is one of the most abhorrent things I can imagine. So the analogy of the gun to your head is very applicable.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

Well if the Bible isn't the devine work of God, and I forget the exact verse, but at one point it says all the stars are unique. How the heck could man have known that before the age of science?

How the heck could man have known that before the age of science? Really? That is your qualification for divine knowledge? And what's the other hypothesis, that all the stars are the same? Really?
