Do you ever feel like you're wasting your time arguing with theists? Sometimes I feel like I'm going through the old argument with with my ex (you don't wanna know) trying to explain the different shades of turquoise. A completely pointless thing to do.

Sometimes yes, but the I remember the people who helped me along my journey towards abandoning theism, and I'm grateful they didn't give up on me.
You never know. The seeds you plant today may not ever bear fruit, but it might just take longer, like me. :-) It can be frustrating, but keep planting seeds of truth! Then again, I waste lots of time discussing shit with all kinds of people. I spend very little time arguing with anyone because I find it to be more a waste of energy than of time. Then again it depends on what you hope to accomplish. If you are trying to get someone to deconvert or at least consider your point of view on a topic as touchy as religion, you have a tough row to hoe. If you just want to exchange views or get a better feel for how someone else thinks, you're less likely to feel as if you've wasted your time.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."
-Stephen Jay Gould
It's usually a waste of time on the person you argue with. It's sometimes not a waste of time for the people who witness the argument. It gets the less rabid on-lookers thinking about their life.
i tried bringing a crazy christian here for you mofos to destroy but he got scared. it's pointless arguing with them, since the last thing they apparently want are credible answers.
I hate the bible. I love that do as thy whilst stuff.
I've started taking up the stance of
1. Here are facts (no that's just it, there are and then there are your delusion and I kinda have a new book I want to finish so I'm gonna go now) (March 21, 2014 at 3:05 pm)heathendegenerate Wrote: i tried bringing a crazy christian here for you mofos to destroy but he got scared. it's pointless arguing with them, since the last thing they apparently want are credible answers. Yea, it often doesn’t work like that. Lol When he/she is ready, he/she will ask you questions, or explore on their own. The mind has to at least be open to hearing something new and different.
I waste my time arguing with theists because I don't have better way of wasting time available to me. If I could do what I want I would never argue with theists.

It's funny. After reading all the posts to this thread I realized christians say exactly the same things concerning talking to atheists. It would be nice if we could discuss these things and then live in peace with each other. Maybe we could possibly work together at trying to solve all the world problems that we agree on. Maybe we could even love each other. Am I starting to sound like a hippie from the sixties?
