If it fails to render a particular page as intended.

Did I ever say there weren't?

You are correct, but I don't think the developers would do such a thing, given the potential repercussions if it was found out... and it could by found out.. unlike what happens with close-source software.

It simply means you can verify yourself. So I challenge you – read the Firefox source code. I know I can't, and I'm paid to do programming in C, Java, C++.
Indeed I can, but I don't have the time for that. I trust those people who work on it and those who keep a watchful eye and are not finding any glaring security faults...

Do you think an institution like Mozilla would risk such a blow to its main product? What would it gain with such a behavior?

Precisely - and exactly the reason why I've switched back to Internet Explorer. I mean, if you can't trust Microsoft, who can you trust?

It is not so much about distrusting Microsoft as it is distrusting IE. IE is a horrible browser, period.

I think Firefox is just easy, and as some great additions that even a novice can use like a pro.

I used to use chrome, and opera before that, and FF is neither better nor worse than any of them in the grand scheme of things. I almost always use Tor for general browsing aside from when I'm on my iPad or when I visit those site (just for ease of passwords).

But you're 100% spot on regarding data leakage. Nothing's guaranteed on the internet.
