HTC One (M8) Question

HTC One (M8) Question
I'm thinking about getting the M8 for my upgrade. I currently have the Galaxy S3. I'm pretty much sold on the M8 for a few different reasons (very close race between the S5 and M8). Though, the rather obvious fault is the camera, so can anyone here that has the M8 give me a little review of your camera?

I've read through a ton of reviews already, so I'm just looking for the "everyday use" review here. I'm also a bit of a concert junkie, and no phone I've ever had could record meal without heavy distortion. Any reviews on the sound quality of the video?

Any help would be appreciated, but please don't point me to reviews as I've probably already read/watched them. I'm also not looking to start a phone flame war, so any unrelated comments will be ignored.

Thanks for the read/help,
Ryan

RE: HTC One (M8) Question
If the mic is anything like the one on my old HTC Sensation XE it will be killed by a metal concert.

The worst part of the video was always the sound with these things - but I don't know if the Samsung would fare any better. Really you'd need an external mic and a recording volume control - and that isn't a part of any phone I know of.

I figured. There are a few pretty good videos on YouTube taken by phones though, so know it's possible. I mean, I'm not looking for professional, just decent enough to be audible. Literally, my galaxy makes it sound like robots having sex. It's pitiful.

RE: HTC One (M8) Question
The previous HTC One was a bit odd wasn't it. And Samsung are great on the camera front. I know you asked for no links, bit these two are essential IMO... I'd definitely recommend YouTube reviewers Erica Griffins take when it drops.

I know the cons I'm getting into, I just want to see how bad in regular use. Just because one aspect of the phone is bad doesn't really make it a deal breaker. I mean if the pictures look okay then I'm willing to trade off.

Plus usually reviewers take unrealistic pictures. I'd rather hear from someone who isn't just taking a selfie or a picture of his wall....

RE: HTC One (M8) Question
I like Chris Pirillos reviews for that reason. He doesn't mention specs, just his personal opinion. Erica's video will be over an hour and cover the minutae detail of the capabilities. Most phones really exaggerate the saturation to give a false impression of scope, and Samsung are particularly guilty. I've gone off Samsung for the bloat and weakness of touchwiz, where sense has got pretty good. You have the play versions of each but you lose the nice camera controls which are kinda the best bit. Have you seen Chris Nacca's reviews/ comparisons? (With the iPhone and nexus 5). I found those useful for basic audio and low light.

RE: HTC One (M8) Question
Well I bought the M8 yesterday. So far, no complaints and actually surprised how easy HTC made it to upgrade to their phone.

RE: HTC One (M8) Question
I've had the M8 since 2 days after release. The camera isn't as bad as everyone is making out, it just means you can't crop like you can on larger MP cameras. The low light abilities far outweigh the resolution constraints.

Here's one I took at night of a platform at work. The lights on the platform were quite dim and the platform is about 30m away

Definitely, the camera is actually pretty badass and takes better pictures than my galaxy S3 and my dad's S4 (active version) with beautiful low light pictures. Yeah the quality itself isn't too good, but it's a phone, and with the help of Photoshop or some other photo editor it'll be fine full size.

I'm just waiting for my next concert so I can test the video and sound recording quality. Hopefully it's audible.

RE: HTC One (M8) Question
One thing you might want to try if the sound it terrible - switch into mono recording. The results on my phone were always much better like that and with so little separation of mic inputs it shouldn't make much of a difference.
