Swedish cabbage stew
#11
RE: Swedish cabbage stew
I love cabbage - my digestive system does not. Nonetheless, I'm going to see if my girlfriend would be willing to try this recipe. If so, we'll cook it together.

PS. One of the best cabbage dishes ever - German red pickled cabbage. So good with wurst.

I love cabbage. My Nan used to make boiled bacon, cabbage and mash and I used to have extra cabbage instead of the bacon. Yummy!

Sounds like colcannon - cabbage, mashed tatties, bacon and leeks or scallions. Grew up on that stuff. Still love it (but foods you had when you were a child are never as yummers once you're an adult).

Boru
Not colcannon. Colcannon is with it all mashed together.

I do love colcannon, though. I want some now...

I think colcannon looks nice!
Checked it out on wikipedia.
The Swedish stew, which is called 'Kåljocka' is often served with boiled potatoes. I don't eat potatoes -- too many carbs is them.
If you want to go real old school, you should eat it with a slice of Swedish 'knäckebröd' (Thin crispy bread) with a bit of Swedish cheese on top. I would advice Swedish 'prästost' that has been stored for quite a while.
