When you anodize a metal, you pass current through an electrolytic solution with the metal acting as the positive electrode. The negative electrode releases hydrogen, and the surface of the metal starts to accumulate an oxidized layer. At a specific voltage, that oxidized layer is a certain thickness. If you increase the voltage further, the oxidized layer thickens, the wavelength of light that is reflected changes with it (remember Snell's Law), hence the varying color.

Is the language Norwegian? Would be cool to see an English translation. Oxidizing magnesium. I remember I had a science teacher in 7th grade who had a chunk of magnesium in some kind of liquid in a jar. He took a pair of tongs and grabbed a small piece out of the jar. As soon as he took it out and the air contacted it, it burst into flames. I thought that was so damn cool! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7Y-nJ-lE38

That was probably potassium. Magnesium in chunk form is safe to handle. Race cars sometimes have wheel rims made from it.
Magnesium shavings and particles, on the other hand, are EXTREMELY dangerous, especially if already on fire. Nothing will put out the fire, even water will accelerate the combustion once it starts, and the reaction is so violent it releases hydrogen which will explode. Not a fun experience. The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.
Magnesium and Potassium fires are Class D. On ship, the literal firefighting method is "kick it overboard."

The pronunciation just sounds so differently from my favourite Faroese band, TÝR. From what I've seen so far, Faroese is more or less Icelandic with a funny pronunciation. Like icelandic, it is indeed most closely related to Norwegian.

I'm guessing it's some sort of endothermic reaction in the material that starts at a certain temperature. So heat = poofy blue stuff.
