I don't know what it would change, if anything, in physics, but I have never heard anyone even propose such a thing and I have to wonder why it isn't mentioned as a possiblity.

Whilst it is a harder to understand approach within the universe it does make the idea of the multiverse easier to get to grips with.

Yep..it's been proposed..I'll try to find you a link.

Well I'm surprised.

Just did a search on "is the universe expanding or are we shrinking?" on Google and this came up:

http://www.science20.com/hammock_physici...ing-118673

I'm having a rather proud moment because I promise you all I had no idea this existed.

Quote:"Our model should be interpreted as a new complementary picture of cosmology, not as opposing the more standard picture of an expanding universe. The different pictures are equivalent, describing the same physics. This can be seen by a redefinition of the metric, which leads to the “Einstein frame” with constant Planck mass and particle masses and an expanding universe. In the Einstein frame the big bang has a singularity, however. The possibility of different choices of fields describing the same reality may be called “field relativity”, in analogy to general relativity for the choice of different coordinate systems. Field relativity underlies the finding that strikingly different pictures, as an expanding or a shrinking universe, can describe the same reality."

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the discovery that farther objects moving away from us are moving away faster than objects closer to us the key to our expanding universe theory? If the universe isn't expanding and everything is instead shrinking, would farther objects appear to shrink faster than closer objects?

I imagine I'm thinking of this all wrong.
I can't remember where this verse is from, I think it got removed from canon:

"I don't hang around with mostly men because I'm gay. It's because men are better than women. Better trained, better equipped...better. Just better! I'm not gay."

For context, this is the previous verse:

"Hi Jesus" -robvalue

When it comes to physics, actually just science in general, I am as dumb as dog shit.
Just thought I'd clear that up before moving on.
Great theory, it takes some brains to think of stuff like that.
In the end though, it seems as unprovable as m-theory, although not as ridiculous.
If we cast out all religion for lack of evidence, so to should theories such as these suffer the same fate eventually.

If anyone disagrees there's no need to quote my first sentence...I already know. :-)

Well, if we would be decreasing in size , we would see distant stars as incredibly huge, possibly exceding the sun, and the more distanced the star is, the bigger it would appear.
I think, if we would be "shrinking" it would be really obvious from the image of the universe we can grasp.

Sometimes, when my brain has such considerations... Bong
