That the sounds are taken from the set of sounds already known to the speaker is confirmed by others. Felicitas Goodman, a psychological anthropologist and linguist, also found that the speech of glossolalists reflected the patterns of speech of the speaker's native language.[9]

Samarin found that the resemblance to human language was merely on the surface and so concluded that glossolalia is "only a facade of language".[10] He reached this conclusion because the syllable string did not form words, the stream of speech was not internally organized, and – most importantly of all – there was no systematic relationship between units of speech and concepts. Humans use language to communicate but glossolalia does not. Therefore he concluded that glossolalia is not "a specimen of human language because it is neither internally organized nor systematically related to the world man perceives".[10] On the basis of his linguistic analysis, Samarin defined Pentecostal glossolalia as "meaningless but phonologically structured human utterance, believed by the speaker to be a real language but bearing no systematic resemblance to any natural language, living or dead".[11]

Practitioners of glossolalia may disagree with linguistic researchers and claim that they are speaking human languages (xenoglossia). Felicitas Goodman studied a number of Pentecostal communities in the United States, the Caribbean and Mexico; these included English, Spanish and Mayan speaking groups. She compared what she found with recordings of non-Christian rituals from Africa, Borneo, Indonesia and Japan. From my perspective, I was a true believer. From other Christian's prospectives I am either a Believer that de-converted, Never a believer only A false convert or A believer that left the faith but lord will bring him back. Pick your poison.

I agree. Slaying in the spirit is crazy, but that's certainly not why I left Christianity.
The more I studied, the more I realized that all Christianity is a farce.
I realized that every human culture has had a set of creation myths, and for the first time in human history we have been able to use science, geology, biology to see that world was not "created" but evolved naturally. That's enough to disprove the initial premise of the bible (and most religions for that matter), I also do not accept that it's not suppose to be taken literally. "Jesus" spoke of it as a literal event and his whole purpose was to redeem Adam. So that whole argument is just someone trying to conform the bible with the evidence presented.

I also hold the view that sacrificing an innocent man-god for people that you view as "guilty" and "RIGHTFULLY" so is completely immoral. This is not simply a man giving you money to pay a legal fine, this a man completely taking away your accountability for things you have done wrong. We would certainly not let that fly into today's court systems and neither should the "holy of holies". [/b]

If there is a God he's certainly not the god of the bible, Quran or Hinduism.

Yeah, they like to claim deconverts didn't really believe, or were not True Christians™ to begin with. They keep forgetting despite all reminders, that it is them, that have to prove something. I am only 33, never heard any evidence for a god, not even a congruent definition. So, I stand and live my life, while they find that proof.

I never claimed that he wasn't a true believer before. Knowing that, though, does help me to better understand where he's coming from. I do believe people can be true believers and then leave the faith. I know people who seem to be in that situation.
