I said it's what I'd expect to find. We can't debate what are the odds of intelligent civilizations evolving without seeing a much larger sample of the universe.

I don't disagree with your second sentence, it's the first one that I don't get. What does the existence of life elsewhere have to do with deism? What bearing does it have? 
Deism is merely the attempt to not look like a nutfuck bigot, water it down and you can still have a sky hero, just as fictional but with less bigotry. Still bullshit though. More tolerable certainly.

Well, I've always had a soft spot for deists. In my experience, some of the deist posters I've run across could easily be mistaken for the most virulent, take-no-prisoners anti-theist atheist. Sort of in the Thomas Paine/Tom Jefferson mold.
Not that there's anything wrong with that! 
Well it certainly seems you all have put a lot of thought into your positions, and as long as it isn't hurting anyone, that's what really matters. Thank you for your insight.

I have a soft spot for Thomas Jefferson, who liked the words of Jesus, but who also liked the words of Plato and Socrates. But if he were alive today, as much as a deist he was, I would still tell him flat out to his face, "YOU CANT WATER IT DOWN AND MAKE IT WORK". |
