I think part of this is due to the fact that liberals tend to try to understand America from a global perspective while conservatives tend to think that being an American entitles them to do and have whatever they want.

And honestly, it's really hard to be proud of a country when over 40% of its inhabitants think the earth is less than 10,000 years old.
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell

Mind = blown.

Yeah? The guy that I was responding to mentioned nothing at all about trying to change things he saw was wrong. He just ranted and rambled on about how evil our country was and how unhappy he was being here. Well, If our country is so evil and he hates being here then he can GTFO and hop on a plane with Minimalist and go to a commie country where he'll be happier. There's thousands of illegals just waiting to sneak across the border to take his place.

Happy Fourth of July!!!!!

I am proud to live in the best country in the world ever.

The country that first abolished slavery and set about to free the world from it, the country the managed to rule the largest empire of all time. The country that stood up to the nazis single handed and kept the light of democracy burning in europe, the driving force behind the industrial age , discoverers of gravity and evolution.

That's why they call it Great Britain.

You can fix ignorance, you can't fix stupid.

Tinkety Tonk and down with the Nazis.

Let's not forget that your country also:

-Instigated not just one, but TWO drug wars.

-Denied the inherent rights of British subjects to every single colony they ever held.

-Routinely shit on the ideas of free trade, voting rights, and aid to the poor.

-Willfully and deliberately starved a million Irish to death.

-Treated dead enemy soldiers in a fashion that would have made Himmler blush.

-Suborned and then turned a blind eye to the rape of civilians by British soldiers.

-Supported the use of concentration camps - but only British ones. Hypocritical fucks.

-Routinely takes a big, stinking shit on the rules of war, including treaties to which it is signatory.

Best country ever? If true, a lousy standard by which to measure the rest of the world.

You do know that's not why it's called Great Britain, right? The title was originally intended as a means to distinguish the country from Brittany and then adopted formally in the two Acts of Union of 1706/7, with the merger of the kingdoms of Scotland and England. The official title since 1921 is "The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland".

At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

I don't know if I'm proud to be an American exactly, but I am extremely happy to live in this country. I spend almost a third of my year out of the country and I start to get homesick every time. This country is full of beautiful places and friendly wonderful people. You have to be extremely ignorant of the condition of most of the world to not be grateful to be an American.

An emotionally frail being that can't even begin to understand why other children would love their parents as much as you love yours. When challenged the slightest bit your reaction is to respond by essentially saying "I can beat you up".

I am proud to be American; however, I won't deny that there are things that drastically need improving. Those same things serve to reduce our reputation in the world community. You 'American exceptionalist' types love to implore the rest of us to 'get out' at this stage in the conversation; another childish reaction.

We will improve as a nation of people and earn our place as a respected member of the world's society; however, it is becoming exceedingly clear that we will be hindered by dragging you petulant children along with us.

Kindly explain how you personally waged war, fought and won against the United Kingdom twice. Two hundred years ago.
