Anything that fascinates you. Choose from any genres that capture your interest. Diversity in reading choices is highly recommended. Poetry, history, business, science, fiction, non-fiction... Take it all in.

Write a story. Devise characters that will entertain you. Seriously.

I don't think I can do that. ROFLOL

But I never wrote anything other than a dozen of entries in a "journal", I don't even do my school "research".

You asked how you could improve your writing skills. Apart from reading, writing is the only other suggestion I have. Don't be afraid of making mistakes, it's the best way to learn. Don't get too attached to your work, you'll likely throw out pages once you've assimilated the lessons they contain. Don't be overly self-critical, but do pay attention to details. Go for it!

Can you compose a list of 'dos' to contrast my partial list of don'ts? If you can, then you're on your way to answering your own question. Have fun.

I need a way to hide my work cause I share "my" room with my stupid brother. And using Greek for English and Hebrew for Arabic (which is how I journal) will be tiresome.

And what are some easy books to read to start with?

I'm unsure why you feel you'd need to hide your work. As for your brother, perhaps you could create a character based upon him?

Suggestions? (Preferably for free but not pirated)

You can Google the Gutenberg project. They've got tons of free books. It's all public domain stuff, but there are a lot of good books in the public domain.
