This. So much this!

I once road tripped nearly 1500 miles over 46 hours with three other guys, on a whim, in a beat up Ford Pinto... To get sandwiches. I'll tell you a little secret about that trip. I didn't give a shit about the sandwiches. I don't think the other guys did either, except maybe Lamar. He was a nut for his Phillies.

Getting to spend time with those guys was far more important than the sandwiches. There are only a handful of people here that I wouldn't consider doing a road trip with and I don't think there are any current members I would flatly refuse to sit down with for a beer or two.

Yes, travel can be expensive (though with early booking for air fare, not so much). It can be troublesome and inconvenient. But, the connections you make are worth every bit of it and can last a life time. Of the three guys I went to Philadelphia with, I'm still in contact with two and one was killed, shot by a careless hunter. They're the only Army buddies I've kept in contact with.

I'll throw out the offer... I'm willing to help set up a meet in Denver for next summer. I'll find hotels that offer group rates. I'll organize some stuff to do. I'll do the leg work, if there's any interest. Hell, I'll even try to help people find cheaper travel alternatives.

Detroit is one of the few large cities I've not been to yet. Want to host a meet there?!? Big Grin I'd be down with visiting Detroit.

Really, there's not many places I wouldn't be down with visiting.

The difference between hoping it happens and it happening is convincing enough people. Big Grin

I'll give the board a heads up when we do our annual garden/studio party. But beyond that, anyone passing through the San Francisco bay area is welcome to stop by or meet somewhere. I'm pretty sure I'll be seeing Rebecca before too long. With school starting up I won't be as free as I am in the summer but there is always the odd free hour or two.
Don't forget the Portland Pack. They could road trip down picking up Jenny A on the way. I've got relatives in Reno. Every time we visit there we also take a day for the Bay Area. We could easily get a good group together for a Bay Area meet!

Possibly going up to North Fork for a music festival next weekend... if the sciatica from the long road trip clears up. Seriously, a few days without yoga and sitting in a car, and I'm old. Fuuuuuuck.

Anyone want to join?

I've been through it a few times, en route from Pittsburgh to E. Lansing and Ann Arbor. It's certainly a bit rough in areas. IIRC around the north of the city in particular (Eight Mile/M-102?). As a southern Californian, in this "perpetually great" weather of ours, parts of L.A. freak me out even more.

I wish I had thought of this, I'm on a road trip now and I had extra time Wednesday and Thursday to meet people in Illinois.

I'm moving to Ohio next summer, and within a few years will be free to travel far and wide (and I plan to). But I'll probably be able to do relatively short trips once I'm settled in.

I am glad that once I get ready, I will have plenty of people who are close. But I must ask, why the hell would you want to move here? Lol

Perhaps we ought to meet up, share a few bevvies, chat about mod stuff.

I'll keep an eye out for a rotating dog.

Dude I'm totally down with that. I'm in Birmingham every day and I have a car so driving out ain't an issue.

Heh, it's just the way things fell into place. I'm looking forward to suburban living (at a relatively steep discount!) after a lifetime spent in the city. I wouldn't say I'm a country boy at heart, but the first time I looked around and didn't see a single building taller than four stories on the horizon, I thought "I could get used to this."

Well good luck, love. Hopefully we will meet before I move. I can't wait to get out of this state. I never want to see another cornfield. I never want to see a windchill of -40 again. I am thinking....well I've honestly been considering Colorado but who knows. Vosur and my friend Mathilda say nice things about Germany.
