Quote:Roman historian Tacitus reported that Pontius Pilate did execute a Hebrew that people supposedly know today as 'Jesus', and that in the years after that, this dead man 'developed' a "following". No. He did not. (September 8, 2014 at 3:29 pm)LogicOrDie Wrote: Now most people in the worldn except some really really under-developped country have an idea of Jesus. Actually, you'd be surprised at the amount of fundies who believe that everyone over a certain age will be held accountable. They believe that the Holy Spirit will come to every person in some, undeniable way, and that every non-Christian willingly and knowingly rejected him. So, they totally, straight-faced will tell you two things:
Now, it's a stupid, reprehensible belief system, but there are plenty of people who believe it. It's vital to them to accept God as "all loving". After all, if he sent them to hell without telling them the truth, he'd be a monster, and the Bible says they all go to hell otherwise, and the Bible can't be wrong!
The God or the author of the bible wasn't omniscient. it's like any other scripture of that time, limited to the point of view of the writer.
I used to get in to huge arguments with my mother about this. To me, if god is supposedly so loving none of those people would be going to hell for simply not knowing about him. She argued that in the bible it claims that anyone who didn't know god and worship him through Jesus would be damned to hell, no matter the circumstances. The fight ended with me telling her 'basically your god is hitler'...needless to say we didn't talk for a while.
Sounds like a satisfactory outcome.

Here is a thing
it's not only because I don't see God, I don't believe in Him I don't smell him, don't touch him, don't hear him , don't tate him But even if I don't see the air, I still can breathe and realize it's everywhere surrounding us I don't see ultraviolet or even my brain, but there are way other than my direct perception that can show em to me
Pascal's wager: Proclaiming the sort of god which (whom?) is a monarch both stupid enough and vain enough to be pleased with self-interested flattery; requiring both a cynical god and an abjectly opportunist human being.
He who loves God cannot endeavour that God should love him in return - Baruch Spinoza
