Or Atheists, Buddhist, Wiccans, Zoroastrians, Jews, Agnostics, plumbers, politicians, greengrocers, carpenters, surgeons, taxidermists, musicians, carpet installers, solicitors, rugby players, sailors, fishermen, rope-makers, managing directors, filmmakers, apple pickers, vintners, beekeepers, morticians, engineers, calligraphers, lighthouse keepers, geneticists, street cleaners, stage magicians, bricklayers...

Yes, as a positive technique. For instance, have you ever told a new mum that her baby is beautiful, even though it looks like a poorly shaved ape? This sort of lie is nothing if not positive.

Boru Yes of course I've done that about the baby thing, I think all babies are ugly !!
But I've never done it in the name of a made up being that drives me to want to impose my will over that mum and her child, and ultimately make them convert to my way of believing, or kill them !
... oh actually, there was that one woman, her child was really ugl.... !

If a religion has to resort deliberately to lies to promote itself then it can't claim to be the ultimate truth.
Therefore it has no merit.
