What argument? There are merely humans who hold onto religion because it makes them feel good. Historians and archaeologists who are objective are not apologists. Apologists use those things with the intent on convincing you that their religion is the one true religion. All religions do this.
The only reason to study any religion is in order to understand the motifs in them about kindness and defending the religion are universal. Once you understand that you understand that our morality is in us and not the clubs we invent or the holy books we write. The only reason to understand religion is a study of how humans come to false conclusions.
