Resorting to severe measures such as castration (or death penalty) is not going to undo what they did to their victims, and all this does is continue to encourage a sense of barbarity that we (as civilized people) should've gone away with a long time ago.

You could say forcing someone in a prison for life is barbaric, there is no non barbaric civilized solution to the situation, you can't have a nice evening of chatting with the rapist at his house over tea and biscuits to come to a workable solution.

Whatever the solution is it's going to be barbaric.

I think in extreme situations the best barbaric punishment would be the death penalty.

Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

Impersonation is treason.

Rape is more than unpleasant, but it's not a "fate worse than death." I know. It shouldn't without more. . . torture, kidnapping, incest, etc. be either a life time prison sentence or a death penalty offence. The problem is that the recidivism rate on rape is so high. I like chemical castration until the rapists testosterone rates drop with age.

I agree that you can argue that life in sentence is barbaric. I don't see it that way, though, because it's there to serve the purpose of keeping certain subset of people protected from them without having to unnecessarily harm the offenders. So I see it as a necessity in most cases, especially when there are yet to be treatment programs effective enough to significantly reduce recidivism.

This.

I'm a supporter of chemical castration for rapists as well as life in prison for SERIAL rapists. If you rape and are released, then rape again, or if you rape more than once you go away for the rest of your existence.

This.

Not all rape is equal.

It is one thing to penetrate a woman after she says "no". It is another thing to penetrate a woman without her first saying "yes"....and a third thing to penetrate a woman who says "yes" but the law says she can't say "yes".

I think the castration should be reserved for repeat offenders. 1st time you might be innocent. 2nd time you are a rapist for sure.

I would agree that each time a person is accused of being a rapist, it increases the chance of them actually being a rapist. However I disagree with the notion that because one has been accused of rape more than once, the probability of that person being a rapist is 1.
