What did you guys think of Obama's immigration speech yesterday? I wish he would have given more information about what his executive order proposes to do. I feel like he like he is still a watered down disappointment of the president I voted for back in 2008. I wish we could get one president that doesn't make me want to beat my head against a brick wall for one reason or another.

MINI2016 I would vote for him!

Anyways...what did you guys think of the speech?

His plan sounds like a clusterfuck of epic proportions. A bastardized, politicized, temporary, non-solution. A kicking of the can down the road to be some future, poor schmuck's problem.

Probably a CF level III.

But I haven't studied it in any depth - just heard the speech and the proposal.

I agree with this, not that he has any option to actually solve the problem without congress. (I don't think?). I think he is trying to pressure them into passing reform. I think they will call his bluff. I hope one day we get a congress/president who cares more about actually solving problems than they do about preserving hot debate topics to pull in votes.

Yup, they probably will.

Never going to happen my friend. Politics isn't about helping people; it's about power under the guise of "helping". Not much different than the Mafia "helping" protect the shop owner from those viscous thugs.

Just another brick falling out of the wall. America is done, goose is cooked, train has left the station ... What we get to watch now is the slow disintegration of a society that once held some promise. The crazy are just going to get crazier, the dysfunction even worse, today's outrageous will not be a blip on tomorrow's news. It will be history in the making though, a one time Super Power folding up into a third world banana republic.

Anything that Obama does will have the other side going bat-shit. It is nothing but a power struggle, a battle over who gets to order the rubble. Maybe a better analogy is fighting over who gets to rearrange the deck chairs on the Titanic. But it is nothing but show.

Well that's depressing.

But probably accurate.

It was a political move to force the republicunts to shit or get off the pot.

We see today that they are shitting.

An executive order means he is directing agencies in the executive branch what the priorities are for enforcing the law. In any agency there are always priorities and he is merely setting forth what those priorities will be.
He won't deport landscapers - he will deport felons.

As an executive order it can be overturned by the next "executive" if they so desire. I can imagine every republicunt asswipe running for the nomination in 2016 vowing to overturn this executive order and "deport all of the lousy little brown-skinned bastards." And that should further polarize the GOP into the racist party of the deep south.

It gives the immigrant community something to hope for and something to fear when the primaries start.

It was a pretty smooth political move.

It was also practical.

Bush should have done this in 2008 when the Democrat led Senate fucked him on immigration, but he didn't have the stones. Instead he thought it a better use of time to enact TARP.
