What happened over here was many years ago, the government decided to engage all our best and brightest scientists to collect all our worst weather into one day, to get it over and done with.
It was such a roaring success, they decided to repeat it every day.

We get more annual rain in Portland than does London, but we have comparatively warm, sunny and dry summers (and it's probably marginally warmer overall). Not to mention that the climate varies widely depending on where your feet happen to be planted.
