Archie Bunker
I'm on an Archie Bunker kick (thanks, Cato!), just clicking on random All In the Family clips on YouTube. So much wisdom!

"We didn't come from monkeys, you atheistic pinko meathead."

"I ain't got no respect for no religion where the head guy claims he can't make no mistakes. Like he's, waddya call, inflammable."

Edith: The Chinese. I mean, do they say "God bless you" or "Buddha bless you"?
Archie: You really wanna know, the Chinks just sneeze and say nothing. They can't speak English.

Anybody got any favorites from good old Archie?

Do I correctly remember Sammy Davis Jr. kissing Archie ??

Funny thing is that Sammy is in Archie's chair.

OMG, that's a blast from the past. I can remember watching All In The Family before it went into syndication - it was my generation's Family Guy - no way would ABC/NBC/CBS touch it these days.

Wow as a 90s kid we never get this kind of exposure at all.

I was two when it ended, but I remember my dad watching it and Sanford and Son. He must have been watching reruns or something.

That would be the difference. In the 70s there was more overt racial prejudice, but you could still talk about it in a fairly honest way.

RE: Archie Bunker
I remember when I was young - late 60's - my dad told me one day that a co-worker from his shop in the city was coming to visit. I said "yeah, so?"

It turns out the guy was black which, for my father was a monumental bridge to cross. Anyway, the guy shows up in a huge Cadillac with his wife and mother and he was a riot. So when they were leaving, standing at the end of the driveway in this nice, lilly-white, suburban neighborhood, and the guy says to my father in this booming voice "Yeah, Nick, I think I'll buy it!"

I laughed my ass off.
